Blackwater Wildlife Refuge

The weather wasn't quite cooperating, but sometimes the best moments happen when you simply go with the flow. In Cambridge, we caught sight of the skipjacks at the docks, their timeless presence a reminder of the area's rich maritime history.
From there, we headed to Blackwater, where nature offered a few surprises of its own. A heron stood quietly watch in the flooded woods, blending into the peaceful, waterlogged landscape. Nearby, an egret was busy trying to make a meal of a snake—a fascinating glimpse of nature at work.
It may not have been the sunny day we'd hoped for, but the skipjacks, the quiet beauty of Blackwater, and these unexpected wildlife encounters made the day memorable. Sometimes, even under a moody sky, there's always something worth discovering.
